Rollover Commodore ready for track return

THE Holden Supercar involved in a nasty rollover crash at the Perth Super2 round will hit the track at Queensland Raceway later this week.

PremiAir Racing has pieced the ZB Commodore back together for pilot Cameron McLeod to test on Thursday, ahead of the upcoming Townsville event (July 5-7).

“The boys have been working pretty hard on it,” McLeod told V8 Sleuth.

“They have been here flat out, working long hours, and I have been doing everything I can to help as well.

“I’m just keen to get to the test on Thursday and knowing that I’m in the same car, not some other unknown species of a car.”

A weird element of the Perth incident was that McLeod was actually classified third in that race due to results being backdated a lap prior to the red flag, meaning he technically achieved the best finish of his young Super2 career despite his car ending up wrecked.

“That’s a positive we took out of it, that it doesn’t really hurt us championship-wise. We’re still fifth. We’re still in it,” he said.

There is an air of confidence about the 19-year-old, who won the 2023 Mike Kable Young Gun Award and will co-drive with Tim Slade in this year’s Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000.

“We’re not here to do anything else but win,” McLeod said of Super2.

“Obviously I’m not trying to put too much pressure on myself, just the right amount for what I need – and what I need is wins.”
