CHAZ Mostert has paid tribute to the late father of his Bathurst 1000-winning co-driver Lee Holdsworth by dedicating his Perth SuperSprint victory to him.
Mostert snapped an 18-month drought to finally put Walkinshaw Andretti United on the top step of the podium as a Ford squad.
In a nice touch, the ever-classy Mostert said in a post-race television interview: “This one’s a big one for Glen Holdsworth and the whole Holdsworth family.
“Lee has given everything to this sport, Glen has given everything to this sport, so it’s really sad. I love the Holdsworth family.
“This one is for you, Glen.
“Also (daughter) Everly, (fiancée) Ri, everyone at home that’s always in the background behind keeping me up when you’re never quite winning.
“We’re all competitive and we all want to win, but it has been a little bit of time for me.
“This will be great for our team, great for me, a big confidence boost. The car was mega. We’ve come out swinging this year and it’s even better after the last test, so that was pretty exciting.”
Mostert admitted rookie teammate Ryan Wood had been “kind” to him in their battles for the lead and heaped praise on the 20-year-old.
“He’ll be the guy to watch tomorrow,” tipped Mostert.
Mostert is now 189 points behind title leader Will Brown.
