McLeod laps up PremiAir Gen3 chance

PREMIAIR Racing prodigy Cameron McLeod has grabbed the opportunity to acquaint himself with a Gen3 Supercar ahead of a possible enduro co-drive later this year.

The 19-year-old, who races for PremiAir in Super2, was on-hand at the team’s main game mid-season test yesterday at Queensland Raceway.

Initially, it had been indicated that McLeod would simply be soaking up the experience and seeing how the likes of Tim Slade, James Golding, David Russell and engineers Ludo Lacroix and Romy Mayer operated.

But it turns out McLeod did get to hop behind the wheel of the #23 Nulon Camaro.

“Cameron McLeod joined us at Queensland Raceway yesterday, and it was perfect timing that he had his race suit with him when he was offered a chance to experience a Gen3 Supercar,” PremiAir revealed via social media this morning.

McLeod and incumbent Jonathon Webb are among the contenders to co-drive with Slade at the 2024 Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000.

Russell has already been locked in alongside Golding.

McLeod, whose Super2 Commodore is being rebuilt after a Perth rollover, was not the only driver in attendance yesterday who is as yet unconfirmed for a Supercars enduro seat.

Veteran co-driver Dean Fiore popped up in the Brad Jones Racing camp at QR, as the Albury squad travelled north for a Jaxon Evans rookie test.

BJR thus far has announced enduro pairings of Andre Heimgartner/Declan Fraser, Bryce Fullwood/Jaylyn Robotham and Macauley Jones/Jordan Boys, with a ‘TBC’ currently next to Evans’ name.

Dylan O’Keeffe and Cameron Crick meanwhile tested for Matt Stone Racing and look set to be named as co-drivers for Nick Percat and Cameron Hill respectively.
