VIDEO: A tour underneath the world’s fastest VL Commodore

THE latest video on the Perkins Engineering YouTube channel is a doozy if you love ‘Walkinshaw’ VL Commodores.

Jack Perkins gives you a guided tour of the underside of PE 010, the recently-restored Holden built by Perkins Engineering in 1990 and raced by Larry Perkins at that year’s Bathurst 1000.

He and Tomas Mezera used the same car to claim victory in the inaugural touring car at Sydney Motorsport Park, the Nissan 500, in 1990.

Famously, Perkins returned to the superceded VL for 1992 and outqualified the newer VNs and brand-new, winged VP Commodores at Bathurst, snagging a front-row start with the fastest ever lap around Mount Panorama in a Group A Holden.

With PE 010 up on a hoist at PE headquarters, Perkins shows some of the VL’s more interesting technical components – including one of the key reasons it was faster than the VN that replaced it.

It’s the second consecutive starring appearance for PE 010; it was also in the most recent PE video, where Perkins gives a peek under the bonnet, in the boot and inside the cockpit as the car is prepared for a return to the racetrack.
