Twilight races for Wanneroo Supercars round

WANNEROO will host a pair of twilight races when the Repco Supercars Championship visits next month.

Supercars has released the full track schedule for the event with Races 9 and 10 of the 2024 season slated to race towards sunset.

The races are scheduled for 55 laps and will get underway at 4:05pm local time on both Saturday and Sunday, with the time-certain finish cutoff listed at 1 lap after 5:13pm, which is 13 minutes before sunset.

The scheduling means both races will fall into a prime time television window for states on the eastern seaboard, where the race will get underway at 6:05pm.

It won’t be the first time Wanneroo’s races have been held in the evening, the most recent instance being in 2019 when both races were held at night.

Twilight races were also held in the 2000s, when the event’s three-race format had the opening sprint race getting underway at a similar time on Saturday afternoon.

The announcement follows tweaks to the Perth round’s practice schedule, shortening Friday’s session in order to add a 20-minute session to both Saturday and Sunday morning.

The round will mark the first on home soil for Brodie Kostecki as reigning champion, as well as the Perth-born racer’s first outing on home soil with the #1 following his return to Supercars for the upcoming ITM Taupō Super400.

The Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint will take place at CARCO.com.au Raceway on May 17-19.
