SIENNA Richards, the 11-year-old daughter of the late Supercars star Jason Richards, has had her first taste of a kart at the Todd Road Circuit in Melbourne - and loved it!
While the Supercars Championship was competing for the trophy named in honour of her late father at Pukekohe in New Zealand on the weekend - eventually won by Kiwi Scott McLaughlin - Richards Jnr slipped behind the wheel of an outdoor kart for the first time.
Running with the #64 plate - the same number used by her father during his karting days in New Zealand and also used in his first Bathurst 1000 start in a BMW in 1997 - Richards Jnr enjoyed the first hit out.
“She’s done some indoor karting and has been nagging me to have a go in a real one out on a track for some time and we finally got around to doing it,” mum Charlotte (pictured) told V8 Sleuth today.
“I really have to thank a lot of people for bringing it all together, the track was shut off and out she went for some laps on her own.
“A massive thank you to Shane Wharton from Shamick Racing, the Bouzinelos family for the loan of their karts, Jmac from Immaculate Design Solutions for the decal kits, Anthony and Murray from J&A Kart Tuning and John Wall from The Go Kart Club of Victoria for the use of the track and Mick Conway for putting it all together and making it all happen.
“They went the extra yard with the sticker kit and putting her name on the kart, which was really great.
“She had a big grin on her face and now she’s pushing me to go and do some club days. Where we go from here, I don’t know, but I’m glad she enjoyed it.
“Jason’s Mum (Pauline) rang me last night and Dave (Jason’s father) was over the moon and wished he’d been there for her first experience in the kart.”
