Ford icon Dick Johnson the focus of first episode on 7mate
THE award-winning Shannons Legends of Motorsport series returns to television screens this Saturday September 19 on 7mate with a special focus on three-time Bathurst winner Dick Johnson.
Host Bill Woods sits down with the Hall of Famer to discuss his storied career and all of the memorable moments he created that live on in the Channel 7 tape library.
His Bathurst-winning co-drivers, John French and John Bowe, stop by as well to swap some stories about their time with the Queensland champion in a program that was filmed at the special Bowden’s Own Car Collection on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
While Johnson and Bowe were the focus of a program in the first series, this show delves further into the 1970s/1980s period of Johnson’s career prior to the commencement of his decade-long partnership with the Tasmanian in 1988.
Co-host Aaron Noonan returns as part of the Shannons Legends of Motorsport team for series two and takes an up close look at Johnson’s 1981 Bathurst-winning Tru-Blu Ford Falcon XD racecar.
He also joins Johnson on the couch to take a drive down memory lane and discuss some of the five-time Australian Touring Car Champion’s finest moment.
A wide range of special vision has been unearthed deep from the 7 Sport archive, some of it not seen for over 30 years.
Shannons Legends of Motorsport airs on 7mate, starting at 2pm on Saturday September 19 in all markets.
There will be encore screenings of each of the episodes on 7mate, check your local guides for details.
The following 11 episodes will air in the same timeslot over the 11 weeks that follow, making for a big three-months of classic motorsport on 7mate.
Guests for upcoming episodes of Shannons Legends of Motorsport that will follow episode one include Glenn Seton, George Fury, Kevin Bartlett, Fred Gibson, Brad Jones, Bob Morris and many, many more.
The Shannons Legends of Motorsport team will also focus on three particular Bathurst 1000 races in three individual episodes - covering 1972, 1973 and 1990 - as the combatants that fought those epic battles at Mount Panorama re-live those encounters.
Last year’s first series is now available for purchase as a DVD boxed set and catch-up episodes of both series can be viewed online at Shannons Club in the video section – http://www.shannons.com.au/club/
