Chevron Release Four New Motorsport DVD Titles

Published 14 August 2013

Bathurst 1978 released for the first time plus Brock, Group A and V8 Classics hosted by the V8 Sleuth

CHEVRON Publishing has released the next titles in its growing 'Seven Sport's Magic Moments of Motorsport' DVD series.

Hosted by the V8 Sleuth himself Aaron Noonan, the four new releases add to the four released in 2012 that kicked off the new series.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the first win by Holden's mighty Torana A9X in Australia's 'Great Race', Chevron has dug into the archives of the Seven Network to release the 1978 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 for the very first time.

There's a total of eight and a half hours of unseen-since-aired coverage as Peter Brock and Jim Richards claimed the first of a hat trick of wins on the Mountain.

The cameras kept filming during the commercial breaks, meaning this release includes a range of never-before-seen material from the '78 classic.

It's a classic fight between Holden's horde of Toranas and Ford's Falcons led by the Cobras of Allan Moffat and Colin Bond in a golden era of racing on the Mountain.

Also released this month is 'Group A Classics', covering three of the best races of the Australian Touring Car Championship from the 1980s ? plus a bonus extra race.

The 1985 Calder round, 1987 Amaroo round and 1989 Winton round are featured and as a special bonus, the release also includes a very rare race ? the final round of the 1987 AMSCAR Series from Amaroo Park - the Hardie Irrigation 100.

This was the last Amaroo Park touring car endurance race held at the now defunct venue; an event with its roots in the CRC 300 held at the start of that decade.

Released in October is 'V8 Classics', covering the early years of the five-litre category that became what we know today as V8 Supercars.

The 1993 Amaroo and Symmons Plains rounds are included as well as the winning debut of Craig Lowndes in the championship under lights at Eastern Creek in 1996.

The final release will arrive in time for Christmas in December - 'Three of Brock's Best' covers three of Peter Brock's winning races from his glittering Australian Touring Car Championship career.

It begins with the second round of the 1985 ATCC at Sandown, where 'The King' gave the brand new Group A-spec VK Commodore a debut win in the first appearance of the famous Holden Dealer Team with Mobil backing.

The final round of the 1989 ATCC at Oran Park in Sydney follows as Brock sealed his first-ever win in a turbocharged Ford Sierra RS500 against the previously dominant Shell-backed versions of Dick Johnson and John Bowe.

And to round things out, the release also includes Brock's breakthrough win for the Holden Racing Team at Eastern Creek in 1994.

It was not only Brock's first round win for HRT, but also the first ATCC victory for the factory team ? the first of many!
