New GRM/Holdsworth chapter locked in

ALMOST two decades since Lee Holdsworth first linked with Garry Rogers Motorsport, his older brother is now following suit.

Brett Holdsworth will race for GRM for the first time when the Trico Trans Am Series heads to Queensland Raceway for Round 5 of the 2024 season on August 2-4.

Holdsworth is taking over the Breeze Holiday Parks-backed Ford Mustang raced by Tim Slade at the opening four rounds of the year.

“When the year started, really Tim was always a round-by-round type scenario,” GRM director Barry Rogers told V8 Sleuth.

“Obviously his focus is on Supercars but he was enjoying it for a bit of fun and he sort of did more than what we thought he ever was going to do.

“The sponsor that was involved with him was obviously Brett’s sponsor from previous years.

“Brett has got a young family and was busy earlier in the year, so Sladey competed in those few rounds.

“I have got to thank Sladey, it has been great to have him there.

“And it’s really good to have Brett onboard, the second Holdsworth that has been here over the years.

“We have known Brett for a long time but it’s the first time he has ever driven for us.”

After sharing the #33 GRM Commodore with Phil Scifleet at the 2005 Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000, Lee Holdsworth got the nod for his solo debut at that year’s Phillip Island season finale.

He then spent the following six full seasons with GRM before moving on to Stone Brothers Racing/Erebus Motorsport, Team 18, Tickford Racing, Grove Racing and a Walkinshaw Andretti United co-drive.

Brett Holdsworth meanwhile has long been a regular in Trans Am, including finishing third in the standings in both 2022 and 2023.

“They’re a great family, the Holdsworth family,” said Rogers. “Obviously it’s been a tough time lately with Glen (the father of Brett and Lee) passing away.

“To get Brett out on the track and in amongst the team, we’re really looking forward to it and I’d say Lee will be there – we might be able to give him a job too on the headphones or on the spanners!”

GRM runs five regular entries in Trans Am, also fielding Mustangs for James Moffat (first in the series), James Golding (second), Edan Thornburrow (11th) and Tom Davies (13th).
