HISTORY says Brodie Kostecki’s chances of clawing his way back to win a second successive championship are slim, but there’s plenty of major 2024 silverware still in his sights.
Kostecki’s season has officially got underway at Taupō Motorsport Park, taking his #1 TFH Camaro out on track for practice.
That follows a productive Winton test day where the 26-year-old shook off any rust.
“There’s always a little bit but after about the second or third lap you sort of find your feet again and I started to feel pretty comfortable with the car again,” Kostecki said in a broadcast interview which did not touch on his recent absence.
“We did a really good test plan and got through a lot of stuff that we wanted to try and I was pretty happy by the end of the day.”
He’s now taking a day-by-day, round-by-round approach.
“We’re just taking it step-by-step and I’m confident in the team around me, the boys always do a really good job here,” said Kostecki.
“We’ll just take it round-by-round and try to get as many trophies as we can.
“There’s still a few big races I’d like to tick off, and just go from there.”
Those presumably include the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 – he was runner-up in each last year – and the Adelaide 500.
Triple Eight’s Will Brown, who leads the championship, welcomed his former teammate back.
“It’s awesome to see him back, he’s a great guy,” Brown said of Kostecki.
“Back in Super2 we used to get into each other; now that we’re not in the same team we’ll see what happens, but I definitely don’t think you can underestimate that guy this weekend.
“He does a mega job and he would have prepped well, so we’ll be trying our best to try to keep winning.”
