Ford Mustang GT4 to make Australian debut

A FORD Mustang will be on the grid when the new Monochrome GT4 Australia Series kicks off at Phillip Island this weekend.

Owned by Miedecke Motorsport, the first Mustang GT4 in Australia will be campaigned by recent Bathurst 6 Hour winner George Miedecke and Tickford Super2 teen Rylan Gray.

The Mustang GT4 is based off the 2024 Dark Horse model Mustang, giving it a slightly different look to its Gen3 Supercars brethren.

Its debut at Phillip Island coincides with a 60th anniversary Mustang celebration theme for the SpeedSeries event.

Named the Ford Mustang 60 Years Race Phillip Island, the event will feature car club displays, owner parade laps, and special ticket offers exclusively for Mustang owners.

Ford Performance boss Mark Rushbrook is pleased to see the Mustang GT4 enter the Australian market.

“The Mustang holds a special place in the hearts of racing enthusiasts worldwide, and seeing the GT4 version on Australian tracks is truly a momentous occasion,” Rushbrook said.

“We are proud to be part of the global expansion of Mustang in motorsport.”

The GT4 program extends a long association between Ford and the Miedecke family.

“I haven’t stopped grinning since we confirmed this program,” said George Miedecke.

“I love racing V8s and as Dealer Principal of our successful Ford dealership this makes so much sense.

“Coming off winning the Bathurst 6 Hour I feel like I am driving as well as I have in a long time, and to be paired with Rylan is exciting.”

Gray meanwhile hopes that the GT4 mileage will help his Super2 efforts in a Gen2 Tickford Mustang Supercar.

“Competitive racing in a car as nice as the new Ford GT4 is always helpful for my development and I’m sure it will pay dividends in the Super2 car,” he said.

“I’ve previously driven a GT4 at the Nürburgring so I know what I’m in for – and I can’t wait!”

Other recently announced GT4 entries include a pair of Method Motorsport McLarens, to be driven by Tom Hayman/Marcos Flack and Jesse Bryan/Nathan Morcom.

TCR champ Josh Buchan headlines a DNA Motorsport McLaren, while Love Racing is fielding Mercedes-AMGs for Antonio Astuti/Rob Love and Sam Brabham/Bailey Love.
