Chevrolet engine checks after Darwin dramas

A SMATTERING of sudden gremlins at the Darwin Triple Crown will trigger a check of Chevrolet Supercars engines for any potential wider concerns.

Problems appeared related to fresh Chev engines in play at Hidden Valley, pointing to a possible batch issue.

The most notable case was Erebus Motorsport’s Brodie Kostecki, who missed a chunk of Practice 1 and failed to start Race 1, before bouncing back on Sunday for a front-row start and podium finish – after an overnight engine change.

“We had a little mishap in Perth in the last race with the engine going there and if that didn’t happen, we wouldn’t have had one of the newer engines that seems to have a drama,” Kostecki said during the Sunday broadcast.

He later added in the post-race press conference: “I’m excited going into Townsville; hopefully they get these engine problems sorted and we can have a good, clean run there.”

Matt Stone Racing and Brad Jones Racing also executed Saturday night engine changes for Nick Percat and Macauley Jones.

KRE Race Engines is the control supplier for Chevrolet Supercars teams, with its 5.7-litre unit having generally run reliably throughout the Gen3 era.
